Thanks for the link Adliana - interesting Tiananmen art. This quote on your page puts it best, "Tiananmen Square, however, must not be forgotten. At the very least, as a few of the art works claim, forgetting must be resisted."

I agree, Stand Here for Freedom would have worked well as the poster text. Your statements open a larger philosophical discussion upon the value and importance of peace and freedom. Both words have lost most of their impact due to their excessive use, nonetheless freedom and peace go together as peace can be described as freedom from war and violence.

Peace is not submission, but rather the result of resistance to war. I would rather live with my head up than die with it cast down.

Thanks for your comments Matt - Different viewpoints are great! I appreciate you taking your time to post your thoughts. Nice art of the Ryman by the way...

It's also interesting that Hillary Clinton came out with a strong statement addressing Tiananmen Square and Obama did not.

There are several theories as to why she made such a statement and Peter Koelliker elaborates on them in the comment section of a John Batchelor post highlighting Obama's speech in Cairo:

I find Google despicable for caving in to the communist Chinese. It is also unfortunate that Obama did not speak of this significant event's anniversary when addressing oppressive Islamic dictators.

However, the blame America tour continues and he is what he is. A snake oil selling politician ready to appease any audience he stands in front of if it benefits his agenda.

I personally think your poster should state "Stand Here For Freedom". Those that sacrificed themselves in Tiananmen Square wanted to be free. Freedom is more important than peace and is worth fighting or standing up for. War is a necessary reality that is encoded within nature and the universe. It just is.

"I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees"
