My Poster Published in a Book

October 29, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

My Workers Rights poster has been published in a book, Art for Obama: Designing Manifest Hope and the Campaign for Change. O.K so I have only two complaints. They used a photograph of my poster and not the high resolution file that I sent them and so the image quality is not good. The other issue is, well if you read the title of the book then you know where I’m coming from…

My poster is in the video at about 1:27 and that makes me happy. Proceeds from the book go to Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts in America.

You can get the Designing Manifest Hope book here at Amazon!

There are many great artists in the book and I am honored to be included among them.

Clean Coal is a Dirty Lie t-shirt

October 15, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

clean-coal-dirty-lie-t-shirt-arrietaThere have been many requests for the Clean Coal is a Dirty Lie t-shirt and I have finally printed it! I offered free stencils for anyone to print their own shirt and many of you did, but I thought this would be easier for most of you that are already too busy! The shirt is printed with white ink on the front and back of a nice black t-shirt and only costs $12.99. If you are interested in purchasing 10 or more then send me an email and I will give you a wholesale activist discount. If you want a certain organization or group name on the shirt then let me know and I can print the full design on one side and your information on the other for a discount rate.

Now go see what good people are doing about the impact of coal on communities and the environment like my friend Dave Cooper from The Mountaintop Removal Road Show. Also check out Mountain Justice to learn about current events and actions so that you can get involved and help the people of the Appalachian mountains to save our mountains, streams and forestss.

Go grab a shirt here!

The first person to post a comment that tells me what color the shirt is gets this shirt FREE! This is not a trick question.

Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree Poster - Portion of Profits for Smile Train!

June 29, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

smithville-fiddlers-jamboree-poster-artworkI had the honor of creating the Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree and Crafts Festival Poster this year. It is a limited edition of 58 screen printed posters celebrating music, crafts and independence!

A portion of the profits go back to the Jamboree and to Smile Train, the world’s largest and most effective cleft charity - they help more children than all similar charities combined. If I sell out of these posters I will donate the $250 needed for surgery to give a desperate child not just a new smile, but a new life. So purchase a poster - these are an inexpensive way to help a child in need and get some art too!

The Smithville Jamboree has grown into a major event, drawing hundreds of musicians and crafts people, as well as an estimated excess of 140,000 spectators from around the world. The Festival also celebrates the Independence Holiday and reminds us of the simple pleasures of gathering together and enjoying the sound of live Appalachian music.  This small southern town is as friendly as it gets and specially invites YOU to come and experience this unforgettable event…they guarantee your toes will be tappin’ in no time! Check out their great website for more information!

I will be there on the 4th - just listen for the cheers because I will be a cloggin’ hoedown fool. O.K. that’s not true, but I will be there. Oh yea, don’t forget about the poster - it is only $25!

Be Good Do Good

June 22, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

do-good-be-good-american-flag-posters-arrietaMy new political poster, Be Good do Good, was commissioned by Anne Brown of The Arts Company. She asked me to do an American flag piece and said with a smirk, “But do a positive one.” So this is what I came up with - a limited edition of only 7 screen printed posters of an American flag made in the shape of an eagle with the text, “Be Good Do Good.”

For the philosophical among you - Of course I understand that what is considered good for some is sometimes not good for others. Fortunately, this poster assumes some basic truths or common sense.
Robert M. Pirsig
wrote,
“And what is good, Phaedrus,
And what is not good—
Need we ask anyone to tell us these things?”

On Thursday, July 2nd come by the Arts Company during Art After Hours between 5:00 - 8:00 pm. I will be there and so will the artwork of Brother Mel, Myles Maillie, Norris Hall, and Bob McGill.

My Drawing in book The Bridge, The Eric Voltz Story

April 16, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

eric-voltz-glasgow-bridgeMy drawing of the map of Nicaragua is in the book The Bridge, The Eric Voltz Story by Michael Glasgow. On November 21, 2006, Doris Jimenez was brutally raped, sodomized and strangled in the picturesque town of San Juan del Sur located on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. Four men were arrested in association with the crime including her former boyfriend Eric Volz, a twenty-something American from Nashville, TN. With air-tight alibis, Voltz should have been exonerated within days. Instead, he was found guilty and given the maximum sentence of thirty years of which he served almost a year prior to being released.

The following is a quote from the book which is incredibly relevant to the United States and the rest of the world. Latin American poet Pablo Neruda wrote, “Latin America is very fond of the word ‘hope.’ We like to be called the ‘continent of hope.’ Candidates for deputy, senator, president call themselves ‘candidates of hope.’ This hope is really something of a promise of heaven, an IOU whose payment is always being put off. It is put off until the next legislative campaign, until the next year, until the next century.”

If you enjoy books, wine and smart conversation: On Thursday, April 16th from 6-7pm there is an Evening with an Author at Martha’s (Belle Meade Plantation, 5025 Harding Road) featuring Michael Glasgow, author of The Bridge: The Eric Volz Story.

Danny Salazar - New Album - Live in Music City

February 12, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

Danny Salazar’s music has been described as “Catchy Grooves and Breathless Melodies.” He recently released a new album titled “Live in Music City” which features nine live songs and four studio tracks. I had the honor and pleasure of working with Danny designing his new CD. Danny has his song Here I go Again playing on Lightning 100 - so if you want to hear it then just call and request that they play it for you.

I recommend going to his site trova urbana and listening to some of the songs on the album to see his diverse range of music. Just listen to Here I go Again and then to Reach the Sky and you will understand.  You can learn more about Danny Salazar and hear his music at his site trova urbana. You can also read a short biography and purchase Danny’s new cd at CD Baby.

Christmas + Holiday Card Designs

Christmas Cards for The Arts Company

Christmas Cards for The Arts Company

I designed these Christmas and Holiday Cards for The Arts Company. Anne Brown and the Arts Company are celebrating 12 years in business - quite an impressive feat in today’s art market. They sent out these cards to all of their loyal art lovers from throughout the years.

The card design is of a tree with 12 doves nesting and one dove flying away to symbolize looking to the future and moving forward to the prosperous years ahead. If you get a chance, go to The Arts Company and check out all of the unique art, cards, books and other interesting creations to inspire the mind.
