Chair-ish the Kids

March 23, 2010 by Jorge Arrieta

jorge-arrieta-chair-paintingCheck out my painting for the 14th Annual Art Auction benefiting Kids on the Block for this Thursday night. Chair-ish is an auction of chairs and other types of artwork with a chair theme.

Kids on the Block is a youth development, non profit organization that travels throughout Middle Tennessee educating children and adults on tough issues using the ancient form of Bunraku puppetry.

These puppets are cool and the wonderful people that handle them do absolutely incredible work! I encourage anyone who is available to go or to check out the Stars Nashville website for more information. Kids On The Block serves about 40,000 children in Middle Tennessee and helps kids cope with bullying, child abuse, prejudice, divorce and other issues.

Note: I actually painted this as a study about 12 years ago with my dad while in Washington, DC. I remember almost missing my plane and that insane great taxi driver that made it to the airport in 10 seconds flat…

My dad, Jorge Yances, is having an art exhibition at the Parthenon titled, “Cartagena Memories.” The work recently debuted at The Museo Historico de Cartagena in Colombia, South America.

The artwork takes us on a journey into a surreal world where past, present and future meander through a place where realism and imagination are one in subject and technique. The show opens Friday March 5 from 6-8pm and continues to June 26. You can go to his website yances.com for more images. There will be many people there Friday including myself so come out and enjoy!
