World Autism Awareness Day

March 31, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

autism-awareness-posterApril is Autism Awareness month! On April 2, World Autism Awareness Day will bring the world’s attention to autism, a pervasive disorder that affects tens of millions in all regions of the world. The day also celebrates the unique talents and skills of people with autism and is a day when individuals with autism are warmly welcomed and embraced in community events around the globe.

This is from the World Autism Awareness site: “By bringing together autism organizations all around the world, we will give a voice to the millions of individuals worldwide who are undiagnosed, misunderstood and looking for help. Please join us in our effort to inspire compassion, inclusion and hope.”

What Can YOU Do? Learn about autism. Find out what can be done about it. Now, YOU be that solution!

Download the  8.5″ x 11″ version of my poster for FREE and post around your workplace.

Fined $7000 for Anti-War Posters

March 31, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

occupation-is-a-crime-activism-posters11This is NOT an April Fools joke. The ANSWER Coalition has been hit with nearly $7,000 in fines for posters announcing the March 21 National March on the Pentagon that have been put up in Washington D.C. This is taken from their site, “The government is trying to effectively eliminate ANSWER’s and any group’s ability to engage in postering for Free Speech…The message is this: If you hand out or put up a poster…you can now expect heavy fines and long court battles that are designed to divert money and resources — or shut you down completely.

Dominique and I created this poster to bring awareness to the criminal occupation that exists around the world and also as a tribute to everyone working for peace and independence — like all those who endorsed the March on the Pentagon!

The First Amendment gives each of us the right to freedom of speech regardless of the medium used. Exercise you freedom!

Artist Mel Chin’s inspiring Fundred Dollar Bill Project is well underway and receiving much deserved attention and praise. The project is raising local and national awareness of the hidden problems of lead pollution in New Orleans. I had the honor of meeting Mel and hearing first hand about his project. I must say that he is a generous, brilliant, humorous, kind and humble man. There is still time to get involved with this Fundred Dollar Bill Project to help our children in New Orleans and around the country.

Thank Hackberry South for this post!

March on the Pentagon – Saturday, March 21

March 17, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

we-come-in-peace-democracy-posters1March 21 marks the sixth anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq by US and allied forces. Students and community organizations from across the country are mobilizing to be in Washington, D.C. to make their voices heard in the March on the Pentagon. Protests will take place in most major cities in the US and around the world against continued war and occupation by the US and its allies – in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine and elsewhere.

The main organizers of the march are the Answer Coalition and The National Assembly to End the Wars. The website pentagonmarch.org is where you can get any information you may need to get involved. This is taken from their site,

“While millions of families are losing their homes, jobs and health care, the real military budget next year will top one trillion dollars–that’s $1,000,000,000,000. If used to meet people’s needs, that amount could create 10 million new jobs at $60,000 per year… The cost for the occupation of Iraq alone is $400 million each day, or about $12 billion each month…The war in Afghanistan is expanding. Robert Gates… has announced that the troop levels in Afghanistan may double in the coming months. Both he and Vice President Biden predicted higher casualties–or what they cavalierly call “an uptick” in casualties–in the coming period.”

Help to end the tradegy of war. Please go to the sites listed above to get involved. Check out my new “activist link” for free poster downloads and stencils. I am going to add more posters to this section often and encourage anyone to contact me if you have a suggestion or a cause that could use an activist poster or artwork – I would very much like to help!

This new poster, We Come in Peace was finished today. Dominique hand cut all three stencils and helped print two of the main colors! Give a quick woo hoo at your moniter for her.

Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media

March 17, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

On Sunday I watched, Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media a 1992 film by two Canadian independent filmmakers, Mark Achbar and Peter Wintonick. The film expands on Chomsky’s earlier book, Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media, which he co-wrote with Edward S. Herman. I have only read a few of Chomsky’s books and recommend everyone to do the same – The man has written over 70 books on politics not to mention over 30 on linguistics! You can buy / rent the film or watch it free here on Google.
“The question in brief is whether democracy and freedom are values to be observed or threats to be avoided.” Noam Chomsky

4″ x 4″ mini mini Art Show

March 13, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

peace-war-posters-mini-mini-4x43

I created two 4″ x 4″ peace / war posters for Spraygraphic’s Mini Mini Art Show at the Cartel Coffee and Art Gallery in Tempe, Arizona. Spraygraphic received 600 pieces of art from all over the world, as well as, submissions from almost every state. Internationally, they have art submissions from over 20 countries including Russia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Spain, France, Israel, Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom, Scotland, Canada, Brazil, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Finland, Greece and more.

The show will be up for the month of March at Cartel and a portion of it will move to Conspire in Phoenix. Dominique helped print the blue and the red ink, but then had to go to work. These two mini posters are available in a limited edition of hand cut and hand printed serigraphs. They are only $20.00 each or both for $35.00. The artworks titled, We come in Peace and Give it a Chance – War, are both bound to be crowd pleasers for all of your war loving friends and family!

Beware Peace Democracy is Coming

March 2, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

beware-peace-democracy-is-coming-screen-printI have created this poster to provide a visual means to assist the civil disobedience against all war promoters and end the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan by the US. This poster is a limited addition of only 12 hand cut and hand pulled serigraphs, but like my coal poster, I have also created a smaller graffiti stencil that is FREE to download and print at any size. What does that mean? That means that you can cut the stencil out and print as many as you like. You can print on poster board, cardboard, a building or just about anything that is flat. (Please do not vandalize – that only weakens the cause). All you need is something sharp to cut out the stencil, cardboard or poster board for the stencil, and a can of spray paint.

My wife Dominique helped me screen print the large posters and that is probably why they turned out so well.

I also made an alternative full color version of this poster with a boot print over the dove. This one is a limited edition of 50 prints with the new affordable prices that I am instilling.

I have decided to make all of my smaller archival posters available for only $30.00. I am able to do this because I am an independent artist without gallery overhead and because I believe that art should be available for everyone including nonconformist propaganda art. If you cannot afford $30.00 then you can always download and print out a smaller version for free!

Even a blind man will see as bombs are dropped they bring many things, but peace is not one of them.
