Microbes, Tissues and Robots

February 27, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

I have not posted to the blog much lately due to my work on my latest project. Thankfully, I have finished writing the script and now the journey begins. More on that later. I want to encourage everyone to post comments on the site - this is a great way for us to share our ideas and learn from one another. I have made some adjustments to the comment section so if anyone notices a problem or has a question or suggestion then please let me know. You will notice that there is a Google Friend Connect box in the side column. This really is easy to do and if you already have a Google or Yahoo account then you are just about finished with the process.

I saw this interesting video on my friend Randall Green’s site, Hackberry South - “The Hackberry South will rise again.” If you have never been there I encourage you to check it out, but be forewarned,  you may stay for a while looking at the many excellent posts. From art and technology to humor and entertainment - Hackberry South is a storytelling adventure.

This is a video of Juan Enriquez giving a talk at TED which is humorous and intriguing. Most of you have probably seen video of a TED talk, but if you have not, you are in for a pleasant surprise. This is a brief description of what TED is from the TED site, “TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes). This site makes the best talks and performances from TED available to the public, for free.”

Hope you enjoy the video.

Ban on Real Milk Will End With Your Help

February 26, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

I am a consumer of raw milk, also called real milk. I get fresh milk, with cream on top, every week form a local farm. Raw milk is an outstanding source of nutrients including beneficial bacteria such as lactobacillus acidolphilus, vitamins and enzymes, and it is one of the finest sources of calcium available.

But did you know that there is a ban on raw milk and raw milk products for human consumption in interstate commerce?

“Pasteurizing milk destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamin B12, and vitamin B6, kills beneficial bacteria and promotes pathogens. Pasteurized cow’s milk is the number one allergic food in this country. It has been associated with a number of symptoms and illnesses including: gastrointestinal bleeding, iron-deficiency anemia, skin rashes, colic in infants, osteoporosis, increased tooth decay, arthritis, growth problems in children, heart disease, cancer, atherosclerosis, acne, recurrent ear infections in children, type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, infertility and leukemia.

Raw milk, on the other hand, is not associated with any of these problems, and even people who have been allergic to pasteurized milk for many years can typically tolerate and even thrive on raw milk. Raw milk is truly one of the most profoundly healthy foods you can consume, and you’ll feel the difference once you start to drink it.” Dr Joseph Mercola

I am telling you this because Congressman Ron Paul has introduced a bill (HR 778) that would repeal the current ban on raw milk and raw milk products for human consumption in interstate commerce.

To be successful, HR 778 must have co-sponsors.  Your help is needed.

The passage of this bill into law would:
• Uphold consumer freedom of choice.
• Uphold States’ rights.
• Support family farms by expanding their markets for raw dairy products.
• Promote the local food movement by connecting consumers to producers who happen to live just over state lines.
• Free FDA to focus on the pressing problems in our food system, e.g., tainted imports, under-inspected large-scale food processors.

Danny Salazar - New Album - Live in Music City

February 12, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

Danny Salazar’s music has been described as “Catchy Grooves and Breathless Melodies.” He recently released a new album titled “Live in Music City” which features nine live songs and four studio tracks. I had the honor and pleasure of working with Danny designing his new CD. Danny has his song Here I go Again playing on Lightning 100 - so if you want to hear it then just call and request that they play it for you.

I recommend going to his site trova urbana and listening to some of the songs on the album to see his diverse range of music. Just listen to Here I go Again and then to Reach the Sky and you will understand.  You can learn more about Danny Salazar and hear his music at his site trova urbana. You can also read a short biography and purchase Danny’s new cd at CD Baby.

There is a New Voice in Town - for the People!

February 10, 2009 by Jorge Arrieta

A father breaks down at sight of his children killed by Israeli military

Nashville has a new paper called the Nashville Free Press - The Progressive Voice of the People. The Free Press is a biweekly community newspaper and “born of the belief that the job of the media is to challenge the status quo, not prop it up. At the Nashville Free Press, the customer is the reader, not the advertiser. The corporate dominance of local markets…has subdued the debate, silenced conflicting voices, shuttered the unfettered marketplace of ideas, and steered the ship of state into dangerous and narrow straits. Robust competition and ownership diversity are more essential than ever to the economic health, vitality and viability of our community.” From Vol. 1 of The Nashville Free Press.

What first caught my attention was the cover of the second issue, which is pictured in this post. At last, there is a voice whom is willing to reveal the reality and horrors of war. The tragedy and brutality that innocent children experience as a direct result of political corruption and moral degeneracy must end now! If you have the courage to read the linked article and do your own research you may discover that there are new weapons being used that are considered crimes against humanity. The time has come to use common sense. Killing people is wrong. There is nothing more to say.

I ask you to take a moment and question what you hear on the radio, watch on TV or read on your computer. Your leaders will try to persuade you that dropping bombs on civilians is a necessary consequence for your safety. They tell us every day that we need to wipe certain people off the planet to ensure our freedom. This is insanity. Do we really believe these ridiculous lies? Listen to what they are saying to us! Use our brains and do not let them deceive us any longer. Question authority - who will really gain by these action? But more importantly, who will suffer? Will it be a little child playing with a friend? How would you like to live in such a place where fear and terror were your neighbors? No one would wish this upon themselves, but unfortunately some families do not have a choice. Let us stop supporting these politicians and corporations with selfish interests and help our brothers and sisters at home and around the world.

Henry David Thoreau wrote “If a thousand men were not to pay their tax-bills this year, that would not be a violent and bloody measure, as it would be to pay them, and enable the State to commit violence and shed innocent blood. This is, in fact, the definition of a peaceable revolution, if any such is possible.”
